Transformation Leader – Disability Support
Are you interested in working as an independent sole trader leading a team in transforming their communication, including adopting, consolidating, and normalising use of non-verbal communication including key signs to provide a NDIS participant with genuine connection, opportunity to communicate non-verbally and the chance to consistently make genuine choices and explore new experiences.
The participant is living in her own home in Cleveland Qld with 24 hours support and has a love of animals, music, and swimming.
We are looking for the right person who is proficient in key signs and has the mentoring and people skills to bring existing and new team members to a new level of genuine communication
You will need to be a motivated person who embraces and fully supports the persons’ right to make choices in her life and reach her full potential. You will need to foster the incorporation of communication and forward-planning across the team and be ready to recruit new staff and mentor existing staff to help them improve communication and planning which will minimise monotony of daily activities. Imagination, empathy, and people skills are vital. The team includes a cat and, in the future, may include a therapy or assistance dog. You need to have well established key signs and a willingness to mentor other team members who are new to key signing.
The Role
Organising, mentoring, and training the team including regular team meetings will be required.
About You
You would consider yourself a skilled and experienced professional with a strength in organising and motivating a team. You will have had experience working in the disability sector or will have completed at least twelve months of study in a suitable field. You will be a skilled communicator able to direct the team without losing focus on the transformation required.
Your enthusiasm is infectious, and you are not afraid to explore new activities and ways of doing things. You understand person centred care and can provide leadership to a small team.
Other Requirements
Knowledge of Key signing is essential
Studies in positive behaviour support, speech or occupational therapy would be well regarded
Current NDIS Worker Screening Card
Current Criminal History Check
First Aid Certificate
Competent swimmer
Own Vehicle and open drivers’ licence
The Offer
Negotiated hourly rate at the upper level of the NDIS Pricing Arrangements
It is foreseen this role will be approximately 20 hours per week. It will be a mix of working in the lady’s house, working from home and some community activities. There will be flexibility to enable a great work/life balance.
