Upon its opening in 2013, Torrens became Australia’s 33rd university, and the first to be founded in two decades. Torrens was granted approval by South Australian Premier Mike Rann (and endorsed by Honorary Laureate Chancellor and former US President Bill Clinton) in 2011. This private university is based in Adelaide, but also has a presence in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Health and medicine is the focus of many of Torrens’ 10,000 students at research institutes like Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, the Public Health Information Development Unit (PHIDU) and Torrens Centre of Positive Ageing and Wellbeing.
