A teaching and research institution, James Cook University makes the most of its enviable location sandwiched between the world’s oldest rainforest, the Daintree, and the world’s most vibrant and ecologically diverse stretch of water, the Great Barrier Reef. The main campus is found in Townsville, while an important research campus is located in Cairns, and a large campus was opened in Singapore in 2003. While JCU offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a wealth of fields, two stand out: Marine Biology/Environmental Science, and Tropical Health and Medicine.
