  • We have an opportunity for a Biosecurity Research Officer – Pest Animals to be part of our Biosecurity Division within PIRSA

    The Invasive Species Unit is focused primarily on the management of weeds and vertebrate pests declared under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019 and on the management of aquatic pests under the Fisheries Management Act 2007. The Invasive Species Unit works closely with regional landscape boards, the Department for Environment and Water (DEW), and equivalent interstate agencies to achieve coordinated, strategic responses to new incursions and management of existing priority pest species.

    The Biosecurity Research Officer, Pest Animals is responsible for providing professional support to groups working on pest animal programs and initiatives, which ensure the ongoing effective management of invasive species under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019. This position provides technical advice, research, analysis and services associated with projects on vertebrate pest animal problems affecting primary industries and natural ecosystems.

    The role contributes to delivering the agency’s priorities including stimulate growth and value, sustain the resource, and manage risk and recovery.

    The position delivers clear, well researched and expert analyses, technical advice, scientific papers, briefings and reports to support current NRM programs. The role is responsible for developing and implementing field and laboratory trials of new tools and strategies to control pest animals and undertakes effective data and records management services, ensuring accurate reporting. The incumbent undertakes strategic liaison across a broad range of stakeholders, including landscape board staff, state and local government, land managers, community groups and the public to provide a range of expert technical, policy and planning advice to contribute to the address of complex pest animal related queries and issues.
