The Sunshine Coast Lightning netball franchise participates in the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) league. The SSN league is widely recognised as the premier professional netball club competition in the world. The Club is owned by the Storm Group, and is supported by foundation principal partners, the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) and Sunshine Coast Council.

Due to an internal transfer, we are looking for a new Community Engagement Manager.

About the role

As a Club, we endeavour to make real change in people’s lives and we are looking for a motivated, ambitious and compassionate person to take the reins with our community program. At Lightning we are a netball Club made for, and with, the Sunshine Coast community – making this role an important position within our small team.

The Community Engagement Manager will be responsible for the planning and delivery of Sunshine Coast Lightning’s community engagement strategy to showcase the important role of its players, coaches and staff as leaders and role models, and demonstrate the Club’s social and economic impact within the community.

The successful applicant will be responsible for several elements including:

  • Developing the community engagement strategy to deliver on the Club’s strategic pillar of Community, build and promote Lightning’s brand and drive commercial growth.
  • Developing community and education programs/initiatives and building the commercial framework to seek funding from commercial partners, donations and government grants to deliver our programs.
  • Leading proposals for community funding programs with government and other potential funding partners.
  • Engaging and building strong relationships with local netball associations, local schools, community sports teams, groups and businesses to drive brand awareness and support fan engagement initiatives.
  • Leading the planning and assisting with the execution of the annual tour to regional centres to deliver netball clinics and other community activities.
  • Developing and executing charity partnership programs.
  • Developing and delivering a dedicated First Nations program to drive cultural awareness and reconciliation as well as driving the implementation of the Club’s Respect Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Due to the nature of our industry, this role will be required to work on game day and at nominated Club events, which will require some weekend and evening availability and some travel.

    The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor degree/tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in a similar role with the proven ability to manage and deliver community programs and/or events.
  • Experience in developing and managing financial resources and budgets, including ability to deliver income/fundraising targets.
  • Experience working in a community/not-for-profit focused organisation with will be highly regarded
