About the Role

 

The University of South Australia is seeking a Video Content Creator – a visual storyteller to amplify our research and education strengths using video, in a way that’s aligned with the UniSA brand. 

Successful candidates will have a keen news sense and the ability to tell a compelling story from concept to published video – producing, scripting, shooting and editing, engaging with people throughout the University, and tailoring video for a range of channels, including social media.

You will be an outstanding communicator who is comfortable in a fast-paced environment as one-person video unit but part of a wider in-house news team. You’ll also be responsible for managing the UniSA campus screen content and YouTube channel, so will need to be highly organised and creative with an eye for detail.

The Communications and Marketing Unit’s (CMK) role is to raise the profile of UniSA and enhance the understanding and recognition of its strengths and diversities; internally, externally and internationally among key target groups including staff, students, graduates, prospective students, government, media, business, professions, other educational bodies and the wider community. The Unit plays a critical role in contributing to the growth of the institution’s brand and profile, as well as delivery of the University strategic action plan. 

The News and Communications team is located within the CMK and has responsibility for increasing awareness of the University’s achievements and capabilities through effective public relations, management of media issues, obtaining publicity and media coverage for the organisation and fostering dissemination of information about the University to its various stakeholders including staff, students and the wider community. The News and Communications team produces regular University newspapers, magazines and e-zines, maintains an active news website, social media news sites and contributes to internal and external awareness of University activity. 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Devise and develop videos that tell UniSA stories in an impactful way, aligned with the UniSA brand and voice. This includes all aspects of the production process
  • Provide expert advice to colleagues in relation to using video for a range of purposes, including to illustrate research stories, to support student recruitment, for corporate public relations, or internal communications
  • Manage the University’s main YouTube channel, uploading content as required, ensuring content can be readily accessed by target audiences and is professionally presented 
  • Provide advice / support to staff who submit content for the UniSA YouTube channel with the aim of maximising the reach / performance of video content, including strategies for search engine optimisation
  • Design and create slides and digital brand templates in accordance with UniSA style guidelines 
  • Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism, filmmaking multimedia, or related discipline: or demonstrated equivalent experience, knowledge and skills and a commitment to ongoing personal development
  • Demonstrated experience as a video journalist or video content creator, using film to communicate news stories (or equivalent) for internal and external audiences, including script writing
  • Practical experience in all aspects of filmmaking including: directing, camera operation, lighting, sound recording, editing and other post production processes
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects (or equivalent video, photo editing and graphics creation software)
  • Demonstrated understanding of established and emerging digital technologies as marketing and communication tools
