    About Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Paediatric Emergency Department

    The Women’s and Children’s Hospital provides state of the art health care for women and children in Adelaide and South Australia.

    It is the state’s leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions and SA’s largest maternity and obstetric service. It also provides important community-based services.

    Each year, more than 30,000 people are admitted and about 5000 babies are born at the hospital. In addition more than 250,000 people come to the hospital as outpatients.

    The hospital has 295 beds. The hospital’s paediatric and adolescent wards cater for all paediatric specialties. Women’s wards provide antenatal, gynaecology, neonatal and postnatal care.

    The Paediatric Emergency Department is a level 1 major trauma centre for children in South Australia. Level 1 trauma centres provide a 24-hour full spectrum of care for the most critically injured patients.

    About the Role

    Administrative Officer – Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) works as part of a team of clerical staff to provide administrative services within the PED 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The key objectives of the role is to:

  • Provide a comprehensive and confidential reception and registration service for patients presenting to the Paediatric Emergency Department. 
  • Assist patients and their families, as well as clinical staff within the department.
  • Process admissions, transfers and discharges of patients from the PED and broader hospital as required.
  • Do you have the demonstrated ability to:

  • Use initiative, be resourceful and work autonomously, under limited direction with competing priorities in an adverse, high workflow environment,
  • Set priorities, to work to deadlines and perform all duties effectively with a high level of accuracy
  • Communicate effectively with consumers, staff, external agencies and members of the public demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills
  • Use judgement and respond/manage difficult situations with tact, diplomacy and empathy

  • The provision of a comprehensive and efficient range of administrative support services
  • Maintaining sensitive and confidential information and understanding the principles of confidentiality
