Academic Developer: Aboriginal Curriculum (academic Level A/b)

About the Role

The University of South Australia continues to enhance supports for our Aboriginal students and staff to position the University of South Australia as a University of Choice for Aboriginal Peoples in South Australia and beyond by 2025. These newly created roles in our Teaching Innovation Unit (TIU) will make a significant contribution to the development of Aboriginal content in undergraduate programs (ACUP).

Reporting to the Associate Director: Teaching Innovation Unit and working closely with the Pro Vice Chancellor: Aboriginal Leadership and Strategy Portfolio (ALS), you will provide leadership in Aboriginal knowledges and perspectives in relation to curriculum design, academic and professional literacies, blended and digital learning, assessment and evaluation, and scholarly research in relevant fields. You will also provide support and advice to Academic Units’ staff and senior leaders, to build the University’s capacity to review and revise existing curriculum, and design new offerings, to achieve its ACUP strategic priorities.

Core Responsibilities

Engage with University, ALS, TIU, and Academic Unit priorities and strategic initiatives to facilitate the embedding of Aboriginal curriculum in undergraduate programs and courses

Provide staff development activities and resources which facilitate the implementation of University and Academic Unit strategic priorities related to teaching and learning with an emphasis on Aboriginal curriculum

Contribute to research aligned with the TIU and ALS portfolios, and other relevant disciplines

Actively participate in team initiatives and projects and cooperate with team members in a manner that reflects a commitment to team goals and objectives

Essential Requirements and Experience

Applicants must identify as an Australian Aboriginal person and have the capacity to provide leadership in Aboriginal knowledges and perspectives in the university education context.

The level of appointment will be dependent on the experience, skills and qualifications of the successful applicant.

Level A

A relevant qualification, or experience related to learning and teaching in higher education

Understanding of the principles that guide curriculum development to engage diverse cohorts of learners for on-campus, blended and online learning contexts

Capacity for leadership and a team orientation

Ability to work with a variety of staff across university structures, and community and industry, to support TIU and Academic Unit priorities and strategies

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to working effectively in a range of contexts and settings, with people from diverse backgrounds.

Level B

A doctoral qualification or experience related to learning and teaching in higher education.

Experience in applying the principles that guide curriculum development to engage diverse cohorts of learners for on-campus, blended and online learning contexts

Demonstrated leadership skills and a team orientation.

Ability to work strategically with a wide variety of Academic Unit-based staff across University structures, policies, and processes

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to working effectively in a range of contexts and settings, with people from diverse backgrounds.
