    About Us

    The Property, Development and Commercial Service Office (PDCSO) provides quality asset and facility management services to support the teaching, research and commercial activities of Murdoch University.

    The Role

    The position entails responsibility for the strategic and operational management of key facilities, including the maintenance and repairs across Murdoch University’s campuses. You will be accountable for ensuring that services and operations are effectively planned, purposefully delivered, efficiently operated, and aligned to meet with the University’s strategic needs and objectives. The key responsibilities for this role include:

    Leadership and Management

  • Ability to lead and manage the Facilities and Maintenance team (staff tradespeople, technical staff and contractors, and support staff) of PDCSO in the delivery of maintenance and facilities services for the University’s portfolio.
  • Maintain open and collegial communications with stakeholders, staff, and contractors as required.
  • Prepare and maintain Facilities and Maintenance Business Continuity plans required by the SAMP, PDCSO’s Operational Plans, or the University’s Strategic Plans to mitigate the impact of catastrophic failure in accordance failure of key plant and equipment.
  • Financial Management

  • Prepare annual budget for Facilities and Maintenance in line with Financial Services guidelines, the PDCSO Operational plan and the SAMP.
  • Continuous monitoring of expenses and payments; providing regular reports on past and forecast performance complete with action plans to address issues.
  • Operations/Maintenance Services

  • Manage staff resources to ensure maintenance work is carried out in a timely and effective manner; endeavouring to ensure a professional outcome to clients with minimal disruption.
  • Management and oversight of all contracts associated with building and infrastructure assets and maintenance.
  • Contribute to the compilation of tender documentation for all major services contracts in accordance with the University policy and participate in the tender selection process as required.
  • Monitor and manage performance standards and service outputs using internal and external key indicators of performance.
  • Utilising the University’s Building Energy Management System to ensure efficient usage of utilities and the implementation of strategies to optimise consumption.
  • What you’ll bring to this role

  • Graduate qualifications in a relevant area (e.g. engineering, management) and/or extensive relevant experience in maintenance and/or project work across a range of trade and technical disciplines.
  • Proven ability to think critically and strategically when developing and applying operational activities.
  • High level of planning, coordination, organisational and managerial skills to meet challenges and tight deadlines.
  • Thorough understanding of all relevant regulations, legislation, and standards.
  • Proven evidence of successful financial control and procurement best practise.
