About the role

In this role you will be assisting the Superintendent Exploration Geology in managing the day-to-day site exploration drilling activities of the Magnetite & Growth Geology team in the Middleback ranges.

  • Promote a proactive zero-harm culture and a safe and healthy work environment where employees and contractors can deliver outputs in a controlled risk environment. All work undertaken must be authorised and safe
  • Assist the Superintendent Exploration Geology to deliver the annual exploration plan in line with SIMEC’s strategy and targets
  • Collaborate with Magnetite Expansion & Growth peers to better understand the resource characteristics and economics
  • Use appropriate drill target definition, drill testing and interpretation methods and decision-points to work to in delivering the plan
  • Perform integrated interpretation of geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to understand the significance of results, and to assist in target definition and follow-up programme design
  • Interpret and validate geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to update geological models to assist in target generation and resource definition
  • Oversee exploration drilling activity including rig supervision and geological logging, ensuring consistently high standards of logging, sampling, assays, QA/QC and database input

About your experience

To be successful in the role your strong building relationship, proactive, and collaborative skills will be a critical to this role.

You will also possess the following: 

  • A BSc in Geology (honours preferred)
  • A self-starter that can think outside of the box to generate new ideas and targets
  • Experience in Iron Ore or base and precious metals 
  • Competent with 3D Modelling Software 
  • Ability to drive a positive safety culture 
  • Effective team player and communicator 

About our team

SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south west of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Administration functions and ore pelletising and port facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide and Sydney. 
The Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with significant investment over the next three years. Our operations in Tahmoor NSW produce metallurgical coal for the steel making process where the business is currently investing to expand and extend the life of the operations.
