About the role:

This position is one of two managers within the Transfer and Promotion Unit at Victoria Police. These positions manage a team of VPSG-4 Recruitment Consultants, a VPSG-3 Team Leader, a VPSG-3 Gazette Manager and a team of VPSG-2 Recruitment Support Officers. The Transfer & Promotion Unit provides an internal recruitment (transfer and promotion) service for all Police and Protective Services Officers and utilises a merit-based selection process which is consistent with the broader public sector. Selection processes conducted by the Transfer & Promotion Unit are transparent and open to review through an appeal process. The work unit is fast paced, works to a fortnightly cycle with specified timeframes, and processes over 15,000 applications for promotion or transfer each year.

Your duties will include:

  • Maintaining the work unit, including all unit personnel
  • Overseeing recruitment conducted for all commands and regions within Victoria Police, monitoring for compliance and quality
  • Representing and supporting the concept of merit-based recruitment within the organisation, particularly regarding procedural fairness, objectivity, and natural justice
  • Strategically allocating workloads of direct reports
  • Identifying and implementing process change to create efficiencies
  • Providing advice and subject matter expertise on all aspects of internal recruitment
  • As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Sound understanding of modern HR recruitment practices and how these apply to internal recruitment
  • A proven ability to lead and manage large teams in a service orientated environment
  • Strong integrity, decision-making capability, and the ability to exercise good judgement
  • Capability to ensure that service delivery is not compromised during periods of high demand
  • Aptitude to communicate and engage clients and stakeholders across a variety of levels
  • Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, fixed term (until position available.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands VIC 3008.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
