  • About This Opportunity 

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop their expertise and emerging research profile in molecular microbiology and host-pathogen interactions. At this level it is expected that the incumbent will contribute to service and engagement roles and activities.

     Key responsibilities include:

    1. Research

  • Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high quality outlets.

  • Participate in or contribute to applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.

  • Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.

  • Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

  • Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile.

  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

  • 2. Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).

  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.

  • Contribute to developing supervisee performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.

  • As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.

  • Working to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.

     About The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences

    The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) combines the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology into a single academic unit. The School has modern research laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and research infrastructure. The School includes over 50 academic staff, who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.     About You

  • Awarded, or submitted, or near to submission Ph.D. in molecular microbiology, biochemistry & molecular biology or a closely related area.

  • Experience in working with microorganisms causing infectious diseases, including work with different types of infection models

  • Experience in genetic manipulation of microorganisms and/or experience in purification & characterization of enzymes

  • An ability to establish effective relationships with colleagues

  • Evidence of a contribution to research, including research publications, presentations at scientific conferences or similar

  • High level inter-personal and communication skills and ability to work to deadlines

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.

  • ​Desirable:

  • Experience in the generation and analysis of systems level data e.g. RNAseq

  • Experience in microscopy and imaging.

  • Experience in student supervision at honours and possibly PhD-level

  • What We Can Offer 

    This is a full-time (100%) fixed-term position up to 31 December 2025 at Academic Research Level A.

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $89,616.53 to $99,426.59 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range of $104,851.34 to $116,329.11 per annum.
