  • Employment Type: Full-time (35 hour week)
  • Duration: 12 month fixed term contract
  • Remuneration: $71,629 – $75,560 + 17% Super and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid Flexible Working)

This position will work across collaborative projects with The Kirby Institute and the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC). The Kirby Institute is a world-leading health research institute at UNSW Sydney. We work to eliminate infectious diseases, globally. Our specialisation is in developing health solutions for the most at-risk communities. Putting communities at the heart of our research, we develop tests, treatments, cures and prevention strategies that have the greatest chance of success.

NDARC was established at the University of New South Wales by the Commonwealth Government in 1986 to extend the knowledge base required for effective treatment of individuals with alcohol and other drug related problems and to enhance the overall research capacity in the drug and alcohol field. The Centre is highly regarded, both nationally and internationally, for its contribution to drug and alcohol research.

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Research Assistant, you will be contributing to a novel series of work that will be published in a high-impact widely-read academic journal. Key responsibilities will involve searching for and identifying relevant source data; contributing to data analyses; creating databases for data entry and maps to display results; preparing reports and publications; liaising with other research staff and collaborators.

Who You Are:

  • A degree in the behavioural sciences, social sciences, epidemiology or equivalent, preferably with an understanding of drug and alcohol issues.
  • Excellent written communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively synthesise and summarise large amounts of information.
  • Experience in conducting literature reviews and proficiency with associated software (e.g. Covidence, Endnote) would be advantageous.
  • Skills in data management and statistical analysis, such as, experience in working with large data sets, proficiency in relevant data management and analysis packages (e.g., Microsoft Access and Excel, Stata), and/or using meta-analytic approaches.
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
