Who are we looking for?

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Research Assistant to join the School of Communication, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice, Academic Division.

This project aims to enhance current practice and propose fresh / challenging concepts and practical ideas for pedagogical justice, truth telling, and advancing multi-disciplinary Indigenous voices.  We will audit content, pedagogies and assessment, and engage critical, innovative and creative approaches teaching and learning critical Indigenous Studies.  An anticipated outcome is a conceptual design of a culturally safe learning environment for critical Indigenous Studies in the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice.    

A suitably qualified and experienced research assistant is sought to support and assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting of findings from this project. This position would be well suited to someone currently undertaking a higher degree by research or similar work, who is able to flexibly accommodate their work on this project with their other responsibilities. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are especially encouraged to apply. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake research activities including literature review, ethics application and project activities to meet the goals, timeline and deliverables of the project.
  • Coordinate and assist with research activities including interviews, document analysis, workshops and data analysis.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project reports, define research outcomes for seminar / conference presentations and where required draft papers for publication in refereed journals.
  • Work effectively with the research team to manage the project.
  • Maintain research confidentiality and conform to all requirements for research ethics and the protection of intellectual property and other relevant legislation.
  • Participate in project activities including workshops, team meetings and applications for future funding.
  • Compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.

What you need to succeed

You will demonstrate:

  1. Completion of an undergraduate qualification in education, justice, communication, design, and creative practice, or an equivalent field, or commensurate professional experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in research, or teaching settings is desirable but not essential.
  3. Demonstrated training and/or experience in undertaking qualitative research methods.
  4. Demonstrated strong organisational skills with experience assisting in organisation and delivery of projects and/or research.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team, and with external partners, proven ability to use initiative, and to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  6. Demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

Appointment type:  Appointment will be on a casual basis, with work likely to commence in April 2023. The appointment will be for up to 40 hours of casual work.

Remuneration:  $48.91 to $55.16 per hour (HEW5) inclusive of 25% casual hourly rate loading.
