Machine Operator – Products and Prototyping

Work Location: Dawson Rd., Perth Airport

Roster: Monday to Friday

In this position you will have the opportunity to develop advanced polymer membranes for green energy production, storage, and conversion. The successful candidate will contribute through the operation of pilot roll to roll. Ideally applicants will have significant experience from the packaging, newspaper, or manufacturing of thin film products.

Reporting to the Pilot Supervisor, you will contribute to building excellent working relationships with all customers, external and internal. In time, you will be able to provide support and recommend changes to enhance manufacturing efficiencies.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Formulate inks, dispersions, and ionomer formulations in the lab for manufacturing pilot trials
  • Managing formulation development, evaluating formulations, and performing quality investigations
  • Assessment of trial and finished products using various physical testing equipment and instrumentation ensuring a quality product is delivered 
  • Follows directions from and reports problems/issues to the Pilot Supervisor and/or Roll to Roll Production Specialist
  • Reads and follows work orders, production drawings, procedures, specifications, and other documentation and/or receives verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed
  • Assists other Roll to Roll Operators, Roll to Roll Production Specialist and/or Engineer on call with machine operation and setup.
  • Positions and aligns parts in specified relationship to each other in machine, fixture, or other holding device
  • Performs intermediate machine tasks, such as cleaning, film handling, bulk switch testing
  • Performs on-line go-not-go testing and work in progress inspection to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards
  • Ensuring that the provision of samples for performance characterisation in a timely manner
  • Ensures product targets are met with product deliveries on time as required
  • Ensuring technical best practice is adopted in pilot manufacturing
  • Develop equipment, instrument, and inspection working procedures
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment as required  
  • Liaising with raw material suppliers and machine technicians to ensure final product specifications are achieved

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Diploma in a technical trade, or high school diploma with an industry relevant skill
  • Solid understanding and industry experience working within one or more of the fields of adhesives, coatings, and/or elastomers, thin films, or advanced manufacturing experience will see you shortlisted
  • Solid practical skills with experience loading and unloading raw materials into processing machines, operating manufacturing machines, and managing product quality an asset
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment in collaboration with other like-minded team members and adjacent project teams (also delivering a variation of the system)
  • Highly responsible and trustworthy
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and logical decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong focus on safety required
