Job Description

Omico, the Australian Genomic Cancer Medicine Centre encompasses several cohort studies to improve the understanding, early detection, prevention and management of cancer. This includes the Molecular Screening and Therapeutics (MoST) Program and the Genetic Cancer Risk in the Young Study which are recruiting patients at multiple sites in Australia.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Research Coordinator position will be responsible for undertaking receipt, co-ordinating patient tissue and blood processing within the MoST team led by Prof David Thomas and Dr. Mandy Ballinger.

The successful applicant will also be involved in daily operation of the team.

Salary: $65,000 + 10.5% + salary packaging

Employment Type: 1 year term contract

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Receipt patient tissue and blood samples following established processes
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Coordinate sample processing with external laboratories
  • Prepare patient samples for shipment
  • Retrieve and archive patient samples
  • Assist in daily operation of the team, including the maintenance of lab supplies, cleaning of equipment and general lab hygiene
  • All staff are required to comply with Garvan’s workplace polices (as amended from time to time) and especially Garvan’s Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy, including working in accordance with the WHS management system at all times, as safety is Garvan’s number one priority.

  • High attention to detail and ability to carry out high-quality work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Highly organised and excellent communicator
  • Competency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to assess priorities and meet necessary deadlines
  • Schedule flexibility

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Experience handling human samples
  • Knowledge and/or experience with database systems and records management
