    Why your role Matters:

    As the Research Systems Support Specialist you will primarily be responsible for maintaining, integrating, and enhancing digital library services and systems to support the management and delivery of scholarly information, data and services for the research, learning and teaching communities at UNSW. This role sits within the Scholarly Communications and Repositories (SCR) team and provides a range of services to assist academic staff and postgraduate researchers to manage research resources. This includes research data and dataset management, development and support services for managing and sharing information assets, and the management of scholarly outputs through an institutional repository. SCR participates in e-research projects and services supporting research data management needs of the University.

    Who you are:

    The ideal candidates have strengths in two key areas; good troubleshooting skill to maintain and enhance Library research systems, and they will be able to work independently with staffs, students, and stakeholders across the University to ensure positive experience. They should have:

  • A relevant degree with a depth of subsequent relevant experience in developing and supporting web and mobile-based services and systems; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of Library systems in the research lifecycle and scholarly communications.
  • Knowledge of project methodologies (Agile, DevOps, CD/CI) and experience with programming or scripting languages such as Java or Python or Ruby on Rails, and HTML/ JavaScript/CSS frameworks will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated understanding of LINUX administration and cloud technology such as AWS and Azure.
  • Working knowledge in the development and use of web services (REST APIs, SOAP).
  • Good understanding of core semantic technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL), XML/XSLT, and SQL.
  • Good understanding of security, storage, management and description of information assets and data, and in development of controlled vocabularies and classifications in a university or research environment.
