The emphasis on the position is to conduct functional analysis of autotrophic fixation of formate and gases (CO2/CO/H2) in purple phototrophic bacteria generating polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) within an ARC Discovery Project. The research fellow will be an expert in metaproteomic analysis of mixed culture communities, and will conduct a metagenomic library, supporting metaproteomic analysis (and other tools as necessary) to identify mechanisms of formate fixation and accumulation as PHA, as well as analysing function of non-PPB flanking community. This role will be expected to contribute to teaching and supervision of research students at honours, master and PhD levels and there will be a significant focus on encouraging multidisciplinary collaboration in terms of both developing a vision and actions.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow, will be responsible for managing the effective implementation of this research, including study initiation processes, project implementation and delivery, and collaborator relationships.

  • Industry engagement to support knowledge build and transfer directed at industrial outcomes.

  • Research

  • Conduct phylogenetic, metagenomic analysis (goal of supporting metaproteomic analysis), and metaproteomic analysis to analyse fixation and accumulation mechanisms in phototrophic purple bacteria.

  • Contribute to ancillary phototrophic bacteria research, including pigment production.

  • Manipulation of samples, including (depending on skill set) enrichment or isolate operations.

  • Further develop pipelines for metaproteomic analysis of environmental samples using metagenomic and phylogenetic analysis.

  • Provide ancillary support to researchers at the Biopolymer training centre at Chemical Engineering
