Level A ($91,402 – $97,927) per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

Fixed-term position for 2 years at the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences.

Postdoctoral position in the general area of the interplay between Index Theory, Noncommutative geometry and applications to string theory

We are seeking to appoint a recent postdoctoral researcher in Index Theory, Noncommutative geometry and applications to string theory, for the Discovery Project held by Professor Mathai Varghese and funded by the Australia Research Council.

The School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences is a thriving centre of learning, teaching and research, and many of its academic staff are world leaders in their fields and graduates are highly regarded by employers.

The School of Mathematical Sciences is one of seven schools that make up the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Pure Mathematics at our university received the top ranking of 5 in the Excellence in Research for Australia ranking of 2018, making it one of the premier departments in the country. It hosts the Institute for Geometry and its Applications (http://www.iga.adelaide.edu.au/) which is extremely active at organising workshops, lecture series and instructional schools that benefit postgraduate students, early career researchers and other staff.

Collaboration with other researchers and students in the School is also encouraged.

To be successful you will need:

  • Recent PhD in Pure Mathematics or Mathematical Physics (If thesis submission is pending, state expected submission date on your cover letter)
  • Demonstrated strong research capability, in terms of publications in Index Theory, Noncommutative Geometry and applications to String Theory
  • Strong background in Index Theory, Noncommunicative Geometry and applications to String Theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and a willingness to work effectively as a member of Professor Mathai Varghese’s team.
