  • About This Opportunity 

    The Pre-Award Grants team works with researchers to ensure that all UQ grant applications are competitive, eligible and comply with sponsor requirements; have the requisite UQ approvals; and are submitted on time. The Pre-Award Grants team works closely with colleagues across the UQ Research & Innovation portfolio and with Faculty and Institute professional staff.

    Locally known as the role title Grants Officer (Pre Award) , you will be the first point of contact with researchers submitting applications for competitive funding, by reviewing and providing advice on matters of eligibility, compliance, and Grantscraft. You will also help to develop resources for potential applicants and Research Office staff to streamline this process, as well as developing and maintaining processes to monitor and provide timely advice to the research community about upcoming opportunities

    Key responsibilities will include:  

  • Display a high level of expertise in the relevant funding body’s funding guidelines and agreements to enable the delivery of high level, consistent and reliable advice

  • Coordination of communication between researchers and the funding body to support eligibility matters and clarifications where necessary.

  • Liaise with academic staff at all levels to ensure successful grant applications, supporting the writing and editing of applications for schemes of strategic importance.

  • Ensure research funding applications are eligible and compliant with funding body and UQ governance.

  • Maintain, monitor and update accurate pre-award grant records as required to enable reporting and analysis of the University’s performance.

  • Assist in developing, and participating in, high quality web & presentation material for major rounds of research funding applications, other significant funding opportunities and budgeting requirements.

  • About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience. Previous experience in pre-award grant support would be highly valued.

  • Demonstrated grantsmanship, writing and/or editing experience in a research and/or policy environment to support concise, precise and compelling content that is eligible and compliant with Guidelines or other instructions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.

  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience in the successful delivery of quality, professional, customer focused services to clients in an environment with tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrated problem solving, data interpretation and analytical skills.

  • What We Can Offer 

    We have 2 full-time, fixed-term positions available. One through to 31 Dec 2025 and one up to 12 months at HEW Level 6 Locally known as the role title Grants Officer (Pre Award).

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $84,871 – $91,158  plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range  $99,300 – $106,655 per annum. 

    The following flexible employment options may be available for this role: ​some working from home; variable start or finish times; flex-time.
