THE FEATHERS HOTEL 

Our award-winning hotel has been a dining and drinking destination for decades. The Feathers Hotel was established by the family in 1966 and prides itself on impeccable customer service with a space for every occasion. We have a wood-stoked Josper oven and grill, stone-cooked pizzas, and traditional pub fare on offer through our popular Terrace and Garden Bar and Greenhouse Restaurant with extensive drink options.

ROLE & REQUIREMENTS 

The Bar Manager will report to the Venue Manager and is responsible for the management of the hotel’s front-of-house/bar operations in the main hotel. 

This role will work closely with the Head Chef, Functions Manager, and Bottle Shop Manager to consistently improve and deliver on the operational needs of the hotel. This role is responsible for the continued training and development of the front-of-house team including Duty Managers and casuals.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, induction, and ongoing training, mentoring, and development of all FOH employees.
  • To monitor and actively seek to improve revenue targets and other potential profit opportunities
  • Responsible for the Department’s financial matters and ensuring operations is within agreed cost parameters
  • To cooperate with other managers within the venue to achieve optimum performance of the Feathers precinct 
  • To ensure a consistently superior standard of food and beverage service to all hotel guests
  • Ensure correct price-setting for COGs budget is achieved in all bars and subsequent areas 
  • Ensure stock is maintained and rotated with appropriate glassware selection
  • Ensure all areas and equipment are cleaned and maintained to the required standard
  • Ensure correct lighting/music and general ambience of bar areas are maintained to the required standard
  • Responsible for setting service standards and styles of service to all areas of the hotel
  • Monitoring the quality and performance of service standards
  • Performance Management of all hotel food service and bar staff
  • Plan and promote actively, staff incentive schemes to build staff engagement and increase sales
  • To ensure the smooth running of all service areas of the hotel in line with operational and employee needs
  • Responsibility to manage guest enquiries, bookings and reservations
  • Responsible for the seamless planning, communication, and execution of functions in coordination with the Function Manager
  • Responsible for planning promotional activities and events
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining an online presence of the hotel in line with branding and activities at the hotel
  • Understanding of the hotel’s offer, demographics, and opportunities for growth
  • Ensure all cash handling, stock and till procedures are maintained to the required standard
  • Ensure compliance with Liquor Licensing Laws, WHS laws, and hotel policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required to effectively manage the Venue and provide an exceptional customer experience, or as directed by the Venue Manager
  • Work closely with the Venue Manager and receive training, mentoring and development on Hotel Operations and Venue Management.
  • Other duties as required by management

  • RSA and RP Badge 
  • Extensive and proven industry-related experience
  • Minimum two years of experience managing a cohesive team 
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Available full-time over a 7-day roster
  • Be well organised and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people (suppliers, customers, employees, and management)
  • The ability to analyse situations and make rational and responsible decisions relating to staffing, patron comfort and care, and strategic business issues
  • Able to accept significant levels of responsibility and accountability
  • Ability to train, motivate, and counsel staff in relation to performance issues
  • Extensive product knowledge including broad local and international food and wines (WSET 1)
