About the opportunity

The Victorian Government’s North East Link Program is Victoria’s biggest road project that will fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network. The project will connect the Eastern Freeway to the M80 Ring Road with new twin tunnels, taking 15,000 trucks a day off local roads, slashing travel times by up to 35 minutes and create new open spaces and walking and cycling connections for local communities.

 The project includes a massive overhaul of the Eastern Freeway, creating new express lanes and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway with two new park and ride facilities improving access to public transport in the eastern suburbs.  

 Laing O’Rourke are working with North East Link Program, Symal, Arcadis and WSP to develop and deliver value-for-money engineering solutions for North East Link Program’s South Package, which includes Eastern Freeway upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road including major bridge upgrades, road upgrades, lane duplications, a new interchange connecting to the North East Link Tunnels and new and upgraded walking and cycling connections and open spaces.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Senior HR Advisor to join us on the North East Link South Alliance. We have a strong pipeline with many opportunities for career progression right here in Victoria.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the People Lead, you will support the People team on the North East Link South Alliance with the implementation and delivery of all people matters.

  • Provide timely and accurate HR advice and guidance
  • Support the facilitation of the annual salary review process including, staff market alignments, promotions and providing advice to managers on bandings and relativities.
  • Facilitate and support with performance development, performance management and disciplinary processes.
  • Operationalise the people strategy and plan with support from People Lead
  • Build strong relationships with project area leadership teams and provide HR advice, support and influencing
  • Support and provide advice on change initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organisational vision, values and business strategy.
  • Support the People Lead in development and implementation of proactive employee engagement and retention strategies
  • Actively contribute to the achievement of the people business plan

About you

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders and influence decision making to achieve necessary outcomes.
  • Proficiency in providing HR advice and support by utilising your working knowledge about best practice and relevant legislation.
  • Experience as a generalist HR professional with practical application of Human Resources in Project Construction, Heavy Industry Manufacturing work environment. 
  • Experience supporting white and blue collar employees and advising at all levels of management
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust to deal with sensitive and difficult situations in a diplomatic and respectful manner.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in human resources, industrial relations, or equivalent experience.
