Job Description

The Treasury is seeking dynamic senior executives at the SES Band 2 level with aptitude and enthusiasm to drive Australia’s economic agenda and to manage, develop and advise on policies to support the effectiveness and sustainability of Australia’s economic environment.

As First Assistant Secretary at Treasury, you will play a vital role in the delivery of our purpose and will leverage your excellent leadership and collaboration skills to set the strategic direction for your division. You will possess exceptional stakeholder engagement capability and capacity to work effectively with the Executive, Ministers and key internal and external stakeholders.

Drawing on your proven professional or senior executive management experience, you will be comfortable operating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse and changeable environment.

Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate:

  • well-developed judgement and strategic thinking skills that enable you to effectively manage high-priority projects simultaneously and anticipate and analyse issues from a range of perspectives;
  • extensive experience in managing the development and implementation of policies, programs and approaches to work that are complex and of high importance;
  • exceptional leadership and people management capabilities;
  • high level stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills that make you well equipped to represent the Treasury and the Australian Government at a range of forums; and
  • the ability to thrive under pressure and effectively perform in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field including but not limited to, economics; accounting, taxation, law, public policy or business and commerce is highly desirable.

    Positions will be Canberra based and this process will establish a merit pool that may be used to fill future vacancies across all areas of Treasury, as required.
