  • About This Opportunity 

    As the Senior Manager, Research Partnerships in the Research Commercial Management team you will work across a broad range of research with researchers from across the university. The team supports industry engagement and business development led by the Research Partnerships Office and provides contracting and other support to the Collaborative Research Platforms.

    You will work in a close knit team of 20 and report to the Director Research Commercial Management. You will also work with Research Partnerships Managers embedded in Faculties and Institutes across UQ. The Research Commercial Management team is part of the Research Office and you will liaise with colleagues from the Research Grants Unit.

    This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a central team working with researchers undertaking ground breaking large scale programs of research.

    Key responsibilities will include:  

  • Primary point of contact for high-level management of research contracts and agreements from initial negotiation to execution
  • Triage of research contracts and agreements to assess requirements for legal and administrative review, in accordance with specified criteria and guidelines
  • Work with UniQuest Directors Commercial Engagement regarding commercialisation and IP management issues resulting from research projects
  • Work closely with the UQ Legal team including drafting instructions 
  • Provide signing briefs to Director Research Commercial Management regarding negotiations undertaken with external partners and researchers of contractual terms and commercial management of research contracts
  • Ensure researcher completion of schedules to agreement, and researchers’ understanding of contractual milestones and other researcher obligations
  • Working collaboratively with finance teams, provide high level guidance for researchers with research budget preparation, consistent with the University’s Recovery of Indirect Costs from Research Funding and Consultancies policies and procedures
  • Support and guide other team members as required.
  • About You

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive contract management experience (preferably in the tertiary education or research sectors); or an undergraduate degree, extensive contract management experience, proven management expertise and other relevant education/training.
  • Demonstrated skills in research contract administration and management at a senior level, preferably within a large, complex institution
  • Extensive knowledge of the higher education research funding environment
  • A high level of communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated understanding of intellectual property management and knowledge transfer
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully engage with industry and other external research partners and undertake contract research negotiations
     
  • What We Can Offer 

    This is a full-time, continuing (permanent) position through at HEW Level 9.

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $123,496 – $130,685 super of 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range  $144,491 – $152,902 per annum. 

    The following flexible employment options may be available for this role: working from home one day per week; variable start or finish times; compressed hours and purchased leave.
