  • About This Opportunity

    An opportunity exists for an innovative and experienced Learning Design Manager to lead the team responsible for the Digital Learning Uplift, a university-wide initiative that enhances the student experience through partnership with faculty staff to (re)design and develop courses. The digital learning uplift team works within the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation.

    Reporting to the Manager, Teaching and Learning, and working under broad supervision, this role provides professional leadership in pedagogy, assessment and learning design issues related to blended and online learning to enhance the quality of educational practice across the University.

    Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Learning Designers and ensure that they work strategically and effectively to assist academic staff to create blended and online teaching environments that support student learning and enhance the student experience.

  • Provides leadership in the dissemination of pedagogical or technological skills and knowledge.

  • Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates online and face-to-face approaches to pedagogical, curriculum and assessment and assists academic staff to do the same.

  • Provides leadership on the design and mix of appropriate educational technologies and environments required to support the creation of innovative and successful courses to enhance the student learning experience. 

  • Maintains knowledge of current practices and future opportunities in online and on campus teaching and learning across the university and higher education sector and communicates this knowledge to support innovation in the wider University community.

  • Collaborates with faculties, the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation, Library, industry partners and UQ staff, to implement and improve institutional approaches and support to enhance student learning and the student experience.

  • Builds and maintains on-going relationships with key internal and external stakeholders through consultation and engagement as required, to deliver learning and development priorities, objectives and programs/projects.

  • Manages Teaching and Learning projects, including;

    leading the planning and development.

    coordinating internal resources as required for project implementation.

    providing guidance to Teaching and Learning project team members.

    defining project scope and objectives, in line with corresponding stakeholders and technical feasibility.

  • Reports on performance outcomes that deliver accurate measures for attaining key project goals and refine monitoring, reporting and communication requirements.

    The Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation (ITaLI) is taking a leading role in teaching and learning, professional education and innovation. ITaLI is an integrated teaching, research and service delivery centre for teaching and learning practices at UQ. ITaLI seeks to establish and maintain a flexible operating structure to drive and support innovation and excellence for these activities.

    Under the leadership of the Director, ITaLI, the Institute provides leadership, engagement and advocacy in educational innovation, teaching excellence and learning analytics, and aims to transform teaching and learning across the University through the delivery of faculty and executive prioritised, teaching and learning projects and services. ITaLI addresses critical areas of unmet need in teaching and learning by bridging the gap between the exponentially‐expanding discipline of higher education teaching and the increasing complexity of teaching to assist University teaching staff and improve the learning experience of students.

    About You

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in adult education; instructional, and/or curriculum design; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • The ability to provide leadership and practical support on both traditional and technology-enabled approaches to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment to a variety of stakeholders, including partnering with and coaching senior leaders to deliver outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to work iteratively, adapting quickly to change and operating effectively both on an autonomous basis and as a member of a collaborative, client-focused team.

  • A very high level of digital literacy in software applications.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative linkages with diverse stakeholders, and a demonstrated commitment to responding to client needs.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and a scholarly approach to enhance your own practice. 

  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills with proven experience in developing a cohesive and effective team.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks through time and project management and to work independently while maintaining attention to detail.

  • What We Can Offer

     This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW 8.

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $105,338.31 to $118,280.70 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $123,245.82 to $138,388.42 per annum.
