The NSW SES has a number of exciting opportunities across the State for Research Officers. We are interested in hearing from people who have skills in research and analytics to support the development of policies and plans that address risk management and strategies in planning for emergencies. This role would suit someone who has research and analytical skills including graduates and professionals who have worked in a research and/or policy role. It is not essential that candidates have emergency service experience as this can be taught on the job by a team of experienced planners and researchers.

We have roles in three functions of the agency:

  • State focused roles – these roles will set policy direction and have a focus on State based planning and future risk.
  • Zone based roles – these roles focus on emergency planning for regional risks associated with the relevant Zone. These roles will research and analyse information about risks in these locations including flood analysis and risk likelihoods and consequences of these risks.
  • SHQ based temporary roles in our Warnings and Intelligence teams supporting the Warnings Framework Project.
  • The locations of our ongoing vacancies are:

  • Lismore/Goonellabah (or close proximity) x 2
  • Metford
  • Tamworth x 2
  • Dubbo
  • Rhodes x 2
  • Goulburn
  • We also have four temporary Research Officer roles up to 30 June 2023, based at our Wollongong State HQs in our Warnings and Intelligence teams.

It is an exciting time to join the NSW SES as we commence the significant growth of our agency in supporting key programs of work to enhance the agency’s capability and response to emergencies.

We are seeking to not only fill vacancies in the above locations, but to also fill future vacancies via a talent pool that may be created from this recruitment (for both ongoing and temporary opportunities). Other locations where future vacancies may become available include Wagga, Goulburn, Grafton, Taree, Albury, Parkes, Bathurst, Broken Hill and Gunnedah. If any of these other locations appeal to you, we encourage you to submit your application for future opportunities!
