About the role:

We are looking for a talented Junior Data Scientist to support the Retail business based in Melbourne on a full-time, permanent basis.

Reporting into the Retail Insights Manager you will play a pivotal role in gathering business requirements and building prototypes of data products (financial models, Power BI reports and Delta Lake datamarts) to assist the retail businesses in the delivery of their pricing and financial strategy.

The role will own Alinta’s data business logic, define and document that logic to ensure single source of truth, build and interpret results of optimisation and statistical models to simulate finance pricing mix.

Duties:

Partner with Retail Finance Team to gather and document their requirements in relation to new and change to existing financial models and data asset

Use Python, Jupyter, SQL, Databricks and PowerBI to create financial models, forecasting models, datamarts and reports

Facilitate User Acceptance Testing of data products build by Alinta’s Insights and DnA Team

Develop and document business logic embedded in data products consistent and clear reporting across all functional areas

Support Insights Manager in researching and maintaining Data Products Backlog

Skills and experience:

Python and SQL coding skills, including knowledge of data analysis libraries numpy and pandas.

Relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, data science or other relevant numeric discipline

Experience with data visualisation tools e.g. Tableau, PowerBI is desirable

Knowledge or desire to learn/explore Machine Learning and AI techniques

Knowledge of retail electricity and gas markets would be beneficial.
