Classification: ANU Officer Level 7 (Research) 
Salary package: $95,324 – $100,098 per annum (pro rata for part-time staff), plus 17% superannuation
Terms:  Part-time (0.6 FTE), Fixed term (19-month contract, with potential for extension)

Climate change  and disasters are crucial and growing issues for Australia and our region.  Increasingly we are seeing the cascading impacts of disasters in a warming world.  Floods are front of mind for many Australians, following the devastating recent unprecedented flooding in the Northern Rivers and other parts of Australia.

The ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) has built a transdisciplinary research team to implement a new initiative – Partnering with local communities in regional Australia to increase resilience to flood risk.  This team is partnering with regional communities to evaluate and develop options for minimizing the impacts of floods on communities. A strong focus will be on development of the first ever Australian guidelines for integrating a nature-based solutions approach to mitigation of flooding by rivers.

The Position 

The Senior Research Officer will contribute to ecological and economic research in the ANU initiative – Partnering with local communities in regional Australia to increase resilience to flood risk.   The position will also be responsible for coordinating and contributing to writing the national Guidelines as well as supervising and/or mentoring students. 

To excel in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications and strong research and writing skills and experience.  Qualifications or experience in flooding, ecology and economics will be highly regarded.  You will be a strong communicator and collaborator.
