Job Description

The Role:

The web developer supports the web team in the administration of matters relating to the design, build and maintenance of the Departments websites within the IT Solutions Section of the Digital Technology Branch, including participating in section planning for short term tasks and work area planning for longer term initiatives.

The role is responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex to complex in nature, under limited direction, utilising expertise in website administration, web publishing and front-end web development.

Key Duties: 

  • Provide administration and support for the day-to-day operations of the Departments web channels, Government standards and accessibility requirements and to professional industry standards.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance support to user groups, external contractors and general employees in the design, development, testing, implementation, and enhancement of the Departments web channels.
  • Manage assigned web project work and provide technical advice in a complex IT environment.
  • Develop and maintain key internal and external relationships, including liaising with stakeholders on policy, project or operational issues and responding to stakeholder needs and expectations. Represent the agency at meetings, conferences and seminars.
  • Provide accurate specialist advice, guidance and reporting on team functional responsibilities.
  • Make and communicate decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time.

Skills and Experience Required:

    • Understanding of web design, development and maintenance and a proven ability to apply this to the maintenance of websites and intranets
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with responsive front-end web development, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery
    • Knowledge of and proven ability to work within web standards and web accessibility guidelines
    • Ability to provide sound and clear technical advice to stakeholders on web related projects
    • Knowledge and experience in successfully setting priorities and delivering quality results on time.
    • Proven ability to communicate effectively whilst responding to stakeholder needs and expectations across a geographically dispersed network.
    • Analytical abilities with the ability to obtain accurate conclusions and apply innovative initiatives while contributing to change and business improvement strategies.
    • Ability to manage staff while identifying training needs across a team and promoting professionalism.
    • Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and policy parameters.

Location and Contract Term: This is a Canberra based role. Contract till September 2023.

Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens. A baseline security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain is required.
