ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Field Scientist conducts and/or manages Field Trial Programs to characterize the field performance of new crop protection, plant health or biological products in line with technical objectives established with the Company whilst following all company stewardship guidelines. They summarize data at the local level and contribute to regional and global field data summaries. The Field Scientist provides local knowledge on crop management practices, issues, and trends to local sales and marketing teams as well as providing support with specific technical information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for flawless field trial execution: Selecting sites based on technical objectives, accurate authoring of protocols using Corteva Trial Methods. Responsible for exact planning, application, and evaluation of field trials as well as timely upload of data to pertinent data bases. Accountable for crop destruction after trial completion according to local regulations and Corteva Stewardship guidelines. Trials may be carried out via approved contract researchers or in person by the field scientist.
  • May represent field sciences on local commercial teams to define local biological questions, complete program attributes, GAP development and contributes to business case building as a key source of technical and industry knowledge.
  • Organizes local or virtual field tours upon request of biology leadership and selects appropriate trials to support decision making in a regional/global trial program.
  • Summarizes data from own trials as well as data from other field scientists and provides key observations and recommendations on product performance to Biology Leaders and local teams.
  • Measures and documents field performance, understands resistance issues, and identifies trends and issues relative to current and emerging competition to Corteva’s product portfolio.
  • May represent Corteva at relevant academic and government institutes in Australia and monitors emerging trends and technology related to agriculture.
  • Meets all requirements of SOPs and completes all internal Safety Standard documentation as required. Meets all administrative requirements, including resource, time and expense reporting.
  • Works with Regulatory specialists to ensure that all trial work is done in compliance with local regulations and APVMA permits.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree as a minimum in agriculture or biological sciences. MSc or PhD is preferred but key is relevant experience in conducting field trials
  • Broad scientific and agronomic understanding.
  • Strong project leadership.
  • Ability to select optimal test sites.
  • Excellent understanding of trial design, statistical methods, data analysis and presentation.
  • Versatile individual who can solve practical problems and is committed to a strong safety and stewardship culture.
  • Ability to interact with growers and to establish effective relationships with contract research organizations, industry, and external stakeholders.
  • Physically fit and enjoy working in the field.
  • Preparedness to travel within the state and occasionally interstate.
  • High level of presentation skills
  • Well developed interpersonal skills
