Contract extensions: 2 x 12 months

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline

Rates: $70 – $100 per hour (inc. super)

We are seeking an IT Project Officer to join The Strategy, Design and Architecture (SDA) branch of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to compliment the existing workforce in order to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Mature the IT asset management practices, capabilities and governance to enable proactive management of the lifecycle of our IT assets;
  • Create Solution designs, architecture artefacts and roadmaps across both applications and infrastructure that enable:
    • IT asset lifecycle driven investments to remediate assets approaching the end of their lifecycle,
    • Strategic platform evolution to address emerging needs, opportunities to consolidate or optimise,
    • Business driven projects to incrementally evolve our capabilities to provide enhanced services for clients or staff, and
    • Strategic initiative design enabling the technology driven transformation of aspects of the ATO’s business agenda.

You will be working with a team to deliver the scope and services across the following areas:

  • Development and maintenance of an investment roadmap coalescing significant investments required to deliver the business agenda and maintain the optimal functioning of our IT portfolio;
  • Solution architecture, design and assurance experience in complex application environments to guide the development of projects to meet the ATO’s present and future requirements;
  • Infrastructure expertise to shape and define the ongoing evolution of our infrastructure towers, including but not limited to: Mainframe, Midrange, Cloud, Network and End User;
  • Input into the evolution of our Technology Strategy in keeping with industry and Government leading practice;
  • Recommendations and leading practice to improve the SDA value proposition through, but not limited to, operating model, governance, functional capabilities, architectural practices and tooling; and
  • Knowledge transfer to upskill ATO resources and build internal capabilities across all areas identified above.

The IT Project Officer will be required to:  

  • Assist with the development and implementation of projects, including project plans, policies and solutions and contributes to issue resolution and escalation, research, analysis activities, governance and assurance and planning and monitoring activities.
  • Define and document architecture, capturing and documenting functional/non-functional (architectural) requirements, preparing estimates and defining technical solutions to proposals.

Working from home will be considered where appropriate and pre-approved by the ATO Project Manager in advance. Remote Desktop Access may be provided where required/appropriate and a desk may be provided if there is one available however this is not guaranteed.

We have a leadership role in shaping the evolution of our technology capabilities and the effective lifecycle management of our IT portfolio.

To position us for the future, the SDA needs to refresh the ATO’s Technology Strategy and continue to enhance its architectural and portfolio management capabilities.

A core objective is to create forward looking investment roadmaps and proposals that improve the integrity and sustainability of our IT portfolio, proactively managing our IT assets and sustainably delivering on the ATO’s business agenda.
