  • About This Opportunity 

    The Senior Manager, Research Analytics leads a team of data analysis professionals and works in close collaboration with senior executive and other staff across the University to provide strategic advice on complex research performance matters. The role will be required to develop and maintain key working relationships across the University, particularly within the Library, Planning and Business Intelligence and Finance and Business Services Divisions.

    The role contributes specialist expertise to shaping the information management strategies and techniques relating to research and innovation at the University. It manages a suite of research and innovation management data reporting solutions and services from initiation to completion and leads the development of major external submissions related to research, as well as the assessment of global research rankings.

    Key responsibilities will include:  

  • Manage, mentor and develop the team responsible for maintaining the University’s research performance analysis function.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of innovative and sustainable approaches to research performance analysis and reporting.
  • Produce research performance briefs, including comparative analysis and benchmarking, for use by the University’s senior executive and research leaders in decision-making.
  • Support the DVC-Research and Innovation in the planning, analysis and systems development associated with the University’s participation in regular internal reporting and major external submissions.
  • Lead the Research Analytics Team to undertake a range of data analysis and visualization techniques (including but not limited to data mining, predictive modelling, text analytics and dashboard creation), examine institutional practices and Government policy and recommend strategies for improving UQ’s research performance.
  • Provide advanced information and advice and training on best-practice use of research profile, performance and reporting data, including recommendations of new datasets for analysis.
  • About You

  • Postgraduate qualifications, with extensive relevant experience in a university or similar environment and extensive experience leading high-performing teams with a focus on research policy and performance reporting; OR equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training;
  • Demonstrated success in managing a high volume, complex team.
  • High-level understanding of the higher education sector and in particular university based research drivers and global research rankings;
  • Expert knowledge of best-practice use of the metrics used to measure research performance at the individual, org unit, and institutional level including an awareness of national and international emerging trends;
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualise problems and implement solutions by analysing, synthesising and drawing valid inferences from statistical data.
  • Advanced analytical skills, including demonstrated ability in quantitative data analysis and the ability to analyse and interpret detailed information to synthesise and present complex information into briefing papers;
  • High level computer literacy including a high-level of proficiency with SAP BusinessObjects (or similar) and Excel;
  • Knowledge of R, Python, SQL and/or equivalents.
     
  • What We Can Offer 

    This is a full-time, continuing (permanent) position at HEW Level 9.

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $123,496 – $130,685  plus super of 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range  $144,491 – $152,902 per annum.
