Assistant Sport Performance Coach

Job Description

The Assistant Sport Performance Coach reports directly to the Director of Sport Performance. The Assistant Sport Performance Coach is responsible for providing education, consultation or guidance, expertise, and training in all modalities of physical performance for all assigned scholar-athletes, intercollegiate teams, and other university stakeholders. These modalities include but are not limited to strength and power training, speed development and physical conditioning. The Assistant Sport Performance Coach also collaborates within the Sport Medicine department on recovery components including nutrition, sleep, and injury reduction protocols. Finally, the Assistant Sport Performance Coach collects and analyzes key performance data and utilizes best practices in the field to assess and advance the program and assists in various other duties as assigned by the Director of Sport Performance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Schedules strength and conditioning programs in cooperation with the Director of Sport Performance and Head Coach of each assigned sport

  • Creates all strength and conditioning training programs for assigned teams, and coordinates approval of all changes in training

  • Attends, implements and supervises all workouts with scholar-athletes of assigned teams

  • Collaborates within the Sport Medicine department on education, resources, and guidance or consultation on recovery components including nutrition, sleep and injury reduction techniques and practices for assigned teams and stakeholders

  • Provides athletes with guidance and proper training techniques for strength and power training, speed and physical conditioning

  • Maintains the athletic weight room, as well as assists with the inventory and compliance of all equipment in coordination with all university rules and regulations

  • Updates the Director of Sport Performance on best practices in the field, equipment needs, and upgrades recommended to provide scholar-athletes the best possible training experience to improve performance

  • Maintains and analyzes key data metrics of performance of each team, as well as the individual workouts of every assigned scholar-athlete

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Sport Performance

  • Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent knowledge obtained through a combination of education, training and experience)

  • NSCA-CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or CSCCA (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association)

  • First Aid/ CPR

  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience required in area of expertise

  • Official transcripts of all collegiate work must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Human Resources Office prior to the first day of employment. All international degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
