About Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT

At Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT, our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory. We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School, and the University Department of Rural Health.

Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce. All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.

About the Role

As the Operational Support Officer, you will work alongside colleagues at Flinders University, Menzies School of Health Research, and the NT Department of Health to provide a range of administrative and secretariat duties in Central Australia to the NT Department of Health and Menzies School of Research Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). You will respond to enquiries in a timely and efficient manner, prepare documents and correspondence for HREC meetings and collate regular performance reports. You will be responsible for maintaining documents and meeting files related to the HREC. As a member of the broader College of Medicine and Public Health team you will also help contribute to operations within the campus site.

The Human Research Ethics Committee is a joint venture of the Northern Territory Department of Health and the Menzies School of Health Research. The role of the Committee is to consider the ethical aspects of submissions to conduct human research projects from a range of researchers including Flinders, Menzies, or health organisations. Flinders contributes to the HREC through the Operational Support Officer position.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have great interpersonal skills, being sensitive to cross-cultural issues and working with people from all different backgrounds. In addition, you will have great written skills, particularly in writing reports, taking minutes, and generating correspondence. You understand the importance of confidentiality and meeting regular deadlines in your work. You draw on your previous administrative support experience to prioritise tasks and problem solve where you identify gaps in system processes.

You should also demonstrate:

  • Completion of a Diploma with relevant work experience, certificate qualification with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Expertise with Microsoft products including Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Successful working experience in a busy environment along with the ability to work individually under minimal supervision as well as a member of a broader team.

  • Administrative experience in a research/academic environment and/or providing administrative support to a committee.

  • A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.

This position involves child related work and is assessed as requiring a Working with Children Clearance/Ochre Card.
