About the opportunity

We are seeking to establish a pool of suitability qualified applicants for the role of Laboratory Technician.

As Laboratory Technician you will undertake scientific activities in a DPIRD laboratory, where you will assist with diagnostics, recording and reporting of insect pests and plant diseases to support WA’s biosecurity, market access and certification. We are seeking individuals with experience in entomology and a knowledge of agricultural systems. An understanding of laboratory quality systems will be highly advantageous. You will be responsible for recording and tabulating results for research and survey work, and will assist in laboratory biosecurity screening for insect pests. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a willingness to work on diverse projects while also contributing to the general maintenance of laboratory equipment, consumables and work areas.

We are looking for individuals with:

  • a certificate or undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • knowledge of laboratory techniques, analytical procedures and diagnostics and reporting, with previous experience providing technical support to laboratory, research or certification programs.
  • a high level of motivation and exceptional interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
