Chemist Laboratory

About the role

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for the maintenance of Quality Assurance protocols (NATA / ISO17025) of the laboratory systems and testing methods. The Laboratory has a large range of instruments, including but not exclusively XRF, ICP and C/S analysers. This position will provide technical support, instrument troubleshooting and supporting research projects. You will also be responsible for the delivery of timely and accurate results and assist with training and mentoring of Laboratory staff.
 

To do this you will:

• Actively participate in the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System as described in company policies, procedures, handbooks, manuals and other company documentation
• Develop and Maintain Quality Assurance Protocols
• Revise test procedures and SOP’s
• Develop, document and validate new & existing analytical methods in compliance with NATA requirements
• Maintain various laboratory instruments and equipment (Training will be given for instruments not encountered before.)
• Perform assigned physical & chemical tests on raw materials, finished product, environmental, miscellaneous materials, and plant process water samples as requested/required
• Play an active role in research and development projects as necessary
• Measure and improve processes by using basic statistical process control techniques
• Maintain and update databases.

About your experience

We are looking for an experienced Chemist with strong technical/scientific mindset and a focus on safety who can collaborate, build productive relationships and take accountability. You will have highly developed computer skills and have the ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
 

You will also have:

• A tertiary degree in Science or Chemistry field
• A background in either Mining, Minerals, Power, Manufacturing, Heavy Industry or Commercial Analytical Laboratories
• Demonstrated ability to operate instrumentation which would be encountered in the Chemical Laboratory.
• Knowledge of sampling and sample preparation techniques
• Sound knowledge and understanding of ISO17025 & NATA guidelines
• Ability to obtain Radiation Safety certification
• Strong investigative and analytical skills
• Demonstrated experience in driving process improvements initiatives
• Have the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross functional team orientated environment at all levels of the organisation.
