  • About This Opportunity

    We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Technician to play a leading role in the Environmental Geochemistry Laboratory (EGL) within the . You will be responsible providing support to operation and management to ensure the smooth operation of the EGL Lab.

    This position is located at our , renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre.

    Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Handling and administration of client provided samples.

  • Subsampling and/or preparation/dissolution of samples and/or standards for analysis.

  • Under general direction operating laboratory instruments and equipment (centrifuges, sonicator, muffle furnaces, fusion machine, analytical microwave, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, TOC analysers, IC & XRF) for sample preparation and/ or dissolution and elemental analysis.

  • Carrying out routine instrument service and maintenance.

  • Monitoring/purchase of chemicals, consumables, and other laboratory equipment.

  • Assisting with general lab management including lab cleaning and hygiene and OHS compliance.

  • Assisting with data processing, reporting and database maintenance.

    About You

  • Completed a Bachelor in Sciences with majors in geosciences, geochemistry, inorganic chemistry, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Proven experience in geochemical laboratory procedures and/or associated applications including sample dissolution procedures that involve in high volumes of concentrated acids including HF and/or flammable or toxic chemicals in the University environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of analytical chemistry, geochemistry, and/or environmental geochemistry.

  • Demonstrated expertise in the operation of some of analytical instrument/equipment such as centrifuges, sonicator, furnaces, fusion instruments, analytical microwave, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, TOC analysers, IC & XRF in the laboratories – particularly in geochemical, environmental research laboratories.

  • Demonstrated abilities to work with very high level, demonstrable attention to details, and aptitude for laboratory work, and to adapt with changes and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge in workplace health and safety to support a safe operating environment, implementing OHS requirements.

  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal with clients’ issues, suppliers, contractors, and prepare professional reports/invoice to clients.

    What We Can Offer 

    This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 12 months, with a possibility to extend, at HEW Level 5.

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $74,378.89 to $82,842.92plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range$87,023.30 to $96,926.22 per annum.
