Perth Modern School is seeking to establish a pool of Assistant Gardener – Handyperson for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year.

Under the direction of the Senior Gardener – Handyperson, you will be responsible for maintaining and presenting our school grounds in a clean and tidy condition. You will provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. Suitable applicants will perform minor repairs and maintenance as requested, as well as other Gardner – Handyperson’s duties using safe work practices and in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines.

We are looking for applicants who are self-motivated, use initiative and are proactive in their approach to both gardening and general maintenance. To ensure our buildings and grounds are maintained at their current high standard, applicants with strong gardening and handyperson skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • And complete the Department’s:

  • Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • induction program within three months of commencement
  • introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
  • training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
  • The Department applies a ten (10) day breach period to this selection process.
