The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is Australia’s audiovisual cultural institution. The NFSA collection includes over 4 million items including films, television and radio programs, videos, audio recordings and video games. The collection also includes contextual materials such as costumes, scripts, props, artefacts, photographs and promotional materials. Public programs and services ensure that the collection is available for enjoyment, learning, research and for re-use by creators. In the digital age, the NFSA’s wealth of stories will be increasingly available across the country, and on demand as set out in NFSA Strategic Direction 2022-25.

The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) has been at the forefront of the shift towards the digital archive. The NFSA believes strongly in the power of collaboration to address what is essentially a national digitisation challenge.

The NFSA requires a Senior Manager to work with the Digital branch to support the definition and delivery of program management capability across the organisation. The Senior Manager will be primarily focused on supporting the planning, delivery and reporting of the varied digital components of the Audiovisual Australia (AVA) funded mass digitisation and public access project. This role will be critical in ensuring the NFSA can address the future challenges for audio-visual collections, while exploring opportunities to create a digital home for Australian audiovisual history, in collaboration with other institutions and creators. 

Job Description
Under broad direction undertake the following duties:

  • Manage, liaise, and negotiate across the NFSA’s Collection, Digitisation, ICT, Digital Platforms, Finance, Procurement, Governance, and People & Culture teams to support the delivery of the AVA digitisation and discovery program.
  • Refine and track Program plan, key metrics, recruitment plan, internal governance structure, regular reporting requirements and decision-making framework.
  • Ensure the capabilities delivered as part of the Program are aligned with strategic organisational goals.
  • Oversee the Program, monitor the performance of Program and identify and coordinate responses to high-risk matters.
  • Prepare briefings and reports to the Senior Executive, Board, Department and NCIs on the status and milestone achievements of the Program. 
  • Develop policy briefs and future project proposals to support the development of a best practice solution for discovery and access of the digitised audiovisual material.

In relation to the ‘Job Details’ listed above, concisely demonstrate your skills, experience and achievements against each of the following areas:

  1. Demonstrated experience working across multiple areas of an organisation to deliver a strategic program of projects.
  2. Demonstrated experience working in a leadership capacity in a multi-functional agency. 
  3. Highly developed interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with senior executive and build productive working relationships with stakeholders.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to negotiate outcomes, inform decision making and present information.
  5. Excellent experience in managing people to achieve agreed outcomes.
  6. Commitment to achieving results.
  7. An interest in audiovisual culture, and an understanding of the ongoing challenges of national collecting institutions would be advantageous.
     

Desired Skills and Experience
To be eligible for this position you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen; and
  • Satisfactorily complete an Australian Federal Police National Police Check.

The other eligibility that may be included in a job would also include the following:

  • Obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance;
