Job Description

Lactalis is inviting interested candidates to apply for this position which is responsible for performing timely and accurate preparation, testing of samples and to report and communicate results to ensure the smooth operation of the analytical laboratory and an outstanding level of internal and external customer satisfaction.

  • To provide accurate, precise and timely communication of results of all testing and analysis to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for assuring quality of batch preparation and quality control activities by conducting product inspection, sampling, testing and sensory evaluation to meet specification and quality standards.
  • Record, review and archive data to ensure all documentation is complete and accurate for compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Carry out day-to-day lab testing work including sample preparation, chemical & machine calibration and minor maintenance.
  • Escalation of out of specification product, relevant stakeholders
  • Support and assist continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and cross-functionally to improve food safety and quality, improve productivity and reduce waste.
  • Promote and participate in the Safety Management System and develop a proactive safety culture.
  • Be a role model for working safely and promoting a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to safe work procedures and systems in consultation with elected OH&S Representatives and team members.

Minimum Requirements

Formal Education and Statutory Requirements

  • Degree in relevant science field (Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry)

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated laboratory experience and proficient in basic laboratory skills: pipetting, weighing, measuring.
  • Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Sound problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to explain test findings and trouble-shoot errors.
  • Good time-management skills and ability to manage competing priorities to deliver results on time.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team to complete all required tasks.    

Desirable but not essential

  • Analytical testing – fats, protein and T solids.
  • Milkoscan experience
