Data Scientist – RFQ-ASD-49-2023 – SOW 1 – Rereleased

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), will deliver cutting edge capabilities to the Commonwealth through a variety of different programmes and projects.

The Data Scientist will be responsible, under broad direction to establish methods, processes and systems to extract data in various forms, structured and unstructured, as well as have the opportunity to apply Data Science principles to mission outcomes. This role will be responsible for optimising data flows to meet end-user data requirements, as well as, the development and sustainment of prototype and corporate tools.

The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.

Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5
  • Lead the processing of data flows (extract, transform and load) and the management of data ingest into existing internal prototype tools and repositories.
  • Drive internal relationships to determine and agree on the best dataflow (optimised) solution, then lead and implement solution (extract, transform and load) into existing corporate tools and repositories.
  • Liaise with ASD teams on innovation and knowledge extraction from corporate data streams to manage end-user data requirements and translate these into internal system requirements and upgrades.
  • Review current dataflow processes and practices to determine where efficiencies and/or improvements can be made in terms of the value from data sources and customer requirements.
  • Oversee internal group JIRA and Confluence spaces (including documentation of team planning and research work undertaken).
  • Represent ASD at meetings and provide minutes, liaison with internal and external stakeholders and other support/administration tasks, as required.
  • Document technical processes and share learned work outcomes with others.
  • Work within an integrated team of technical/non-technical personnel.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Degree or studies certification in a data science field would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of machine Learning, data classification, cluster analysis, data mining, databases, visualisation.
  • Knowledge and experience in development languages/ technologies such as Python, ELK Stack, Linux, Hadoop, Spark and Apache NiFi.
  • Australian Citizenship and a TSPV security clearance is essential.
