Position Details  

  • Fixed term until May 2025 | Part-Time at FTE 

  • Higher Education Officer Level 5 | $74,270 – $81,966 ;(pro-rata)

    About the Role  

    As the Research Support Officer, you will work within a large and collaborative chemistry research team in the Molecular Sciences and Technology research section of the College of Science and Engineering. Funded by a variety of industrial and governmental sources that support chemistry projects in chemical synthesis, electrochemistry and polymer science, a central theme of the research is to promote sustainability through novel chemistry.

    In this role you will provide administrative support for the operation of the research team. Other duties will include:

  • Laboratory support and upkeep including ordering supplies and equipment, receiving shipments, organising maintenance and caretaker requests, and assisting with equipment and chemical inventories.

  • Laboratory chemical management, including safe transport and storage of chemical supplies and disposal of chemical waste.

  • Organising regular lab cleaning in collaboration with the research team.

  • Supporting laboratory personnel, including local on-boarding for new lab members.

  • Assisting with media engagement and meeting with commercial vendors.

  • About You  

    You will be a strong communicator to work collaboratively and seamlessly interact with staff, students, and external partners in a professional manner. You will be confident working in a team environment, providing support to co-workers and take a pro-active approach to solving problems.

    To be successful in this role you will also demonstrate:

  • An Honours or Masters degree in chemistry (or equivalent) with laboratory research experience or a combination of experience and/or training

  • Capability of safe handling of hazardous substances.

  • A commitment to laboratory safety.

  • Capacity to handle confidential information securely and professionally, including laboratory projects, research results, and communications with internal and external stakeholders.
