Research Associate/Research Fellow

  • $91,431 – $122,133 (ALA/ALB) per annum plus 17% superannuation

  • The John de Laeter Centre (JdLC) is a $43 million core research facility at Curtin University and provides research services across the academic, industry and government sectors.

    With the official launch of the AuScope Geoscience Ion Microprobe Facility, we are seeking a Research Associate / Research Fellow to build the capacity of the research team and support the facility lead with the development and application of stable isotope and geochronological microanalysis.

    In this role you will

  • Conduct a specified programme of research and scholarship under the supervision and direction of the Chief Investigators (CIs)
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the CIs, your Centre, or the University
  • Design and carry out research and development of reference materials with a focus on isotopic microanalysis with the support of and under the supervision of your CIs
  • Support your research group in development of data reduction protocols and software for the CAMECA 1300HR3
  • Support the development of proposals for research funding
  • Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research in which you are engaged as directed by and with the support of your supervising CIs
  • Engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of your research group and Centre.
  • Take responsibility as requested for day-to-day advice and support of graduate research students associated with your research group
  • Mentor and assist, as appropriate and as directed, the research graduate students in your School and Institute
  • You will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.

    Selection criteria:

    Essential

  • PhD in Geosciences or Physics
  • Demonstrated understanding of operational requirements for a successful research project and managing resources
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with ion microprobe instrumentation
  • Ability to identify and fulfil the academic writing requirements for target publications
  • Record of working with team members and graduate research students to help build their research skills and knowledge, and to support and guide their professional development
  • Experience in developing novel concepts and solutions for instrumental analysis
  • Track record of presenting research results at meetings and publications
  • Understand relevant scientific literature and active participation in research seminars and conferences
  • Desirable

  • Experience in reference material development
  • Experience in SEM, EM, TOF-SIMS, atom probe or other microanalytical techniques
  • An ability to write software applicable to ion microprobe analysis
  • Demonstrated understanding of the value of academic and commercial information (e.g., non-disclosure agreements, intellectual property rights)
