The role:

 

Multiple opportunities  exists for enthusiastic, motivated & dedicated  Registered Nurses  to advance their careers within the Emergency Department in our Mid-year Postgraduate Specialty Nursing intake for 2023.

Our ED has 60 treatment cubicles including 5 resuscitation rooms and a designated paediatric pod. We promote a strong culture of teamwork and adopt the principle that we are all part of a large work family who support and respect each other. We ensure rosters are fair and actively promote staff wellbeing and self-care.

A day in the life of an Emergency Postgraduate Nursing Student:

 

  • Work alongside experienced Critical Care Registered Nurses and Medical staff
  • Supported rotations through our 5 Bed Resuscitation bay, Triage, as well as cardiac monitored cubicles, dedicated paediatric pod and fast track for optimal clinical exposure
  • Experience wide range of exposure in our dynamic and vibrant department, including emergency and resuscitation presentations from all age groups and backgrounds (from the neonates to geriatric) as well as exposure to diverse range of clinical presentations (Cardiac, respiratory, neurological, trauma, paediatrics, and maternity)
  • Learn new skills while supported by the Education team, including advanced life support, advanced airway procedures and mechanical ventilation, haemodynamic monitoring and emergency mental health care
  • Experience different teaching modalities including lectures, tutorials and clinical simulation
  • Work in collaboration with University of Melbourne to deliver world renowned education
  • Work in collaboration with Ambulance Victoria to deliver high quality, holistic care to our community
  • Financial recognitions  (i.e. higher qualification allowance for nurses who complete relevant post graduate qualifications)

 

About the program:

 

  • Northern Health’s Postgraduate Nursing program in Emergency Nursing commences in July 2023
  • Program runs in partnership with the University of Melbourne
  • Permanent contracts available
  • Minimum EFT contract at 64 hours per fortnight
  • This program is full fee paying:  – please see The University of Melbourne website:   Students should expect to pay the university fees to undertake the program
  • Department of Health scholarships may be available and information provided once available to the health service
  • Students will be supported by experienced Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Support Nurses and Emergency Department staff

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • Minimum of two  years acute care Registered Nursing experience
  • Completed Emergency Supported Transition to Excellence in Practice (STEP) or a minimum of 12 months Emergency Department experience
  • Previous paediatric experience highly desirable
  • Enrolled in the relevant university program
  • Commitment to a 12-month supported program inclusive of all academic and clinical requirements
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of reliability and professional conduct
  • Well-developed assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving, organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Highly motivated and willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated provision of quality of patient care
