  • Full time fixed term opportunity for 2 years

  • Multiple positions available for Research Associates to provide their research expertise in CAR T-cells

  • Base salary $79,784 – $107,516 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney recently appointed Professor Cameron Turtle as the CLEARbridge Chair of Cancer Immunotherapy. Professor Turtle has recently returned to Australia from Seattle where he led clinical and laboratory research teams conducting multiple investigator-initiated phase 1 clinical trials of genetically modified cellular (CAR-T cell) immunotherapies for patients with haematologic malignancies.

The School of Medical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and Health has an exciting opportunity for up to 3 early career researchers to join a newly formed research team supporting the continuation of Professor Turtle’s work in Australia. The Research Associates will be running experiments with the aim of understanding the characteristics of distinct human T-Cell subsets, the development of novel tumor immunotherapies and factors governing the immune response to cancer.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • carry out relevant lab-based research

  • supervise and mentor research support staff and students

  • assist with various research support requirements

  • collaborate with research teams to prepare research findings for publication.

About you

  • completed or working towards completion of PhD

  • experience or understanding of human T-cell immunology

  • some or all of the following skills are advantageous:

  • gene editing and molecular biology

    • highly multiplexed tissue imaging

    • spatial transcriptomics

  • T cell culture, phenotypic and functional assays

  • multi-parameter flow cytometry

  • lentiviral transduction

  • single cell RNA sequencing/CITEseq

  • xenogeneic models of T cell immunotherapy

  • excellent interpersonal skills across a range of stakeholders including patients, clinicians and academics

  • strong research methodology skills in immunotherapy or cancer

  • ability to conceive, initiate, organise and manage projects, work independently, as well as manage small project teams.
