The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly dynamic and motivated Research scientist to join our Biologics, Antibody Discovery research and development team to work on immunology/immuno-oncology related programs. The Discovery Biology Groups evaluates and understands the mechanism of action of antibody-based therapeutics and provides the in vitro and in vivo pharmacology to support lead selection, advancement of lead candidates and preparation of drug development packages to support ongoing development.

You will have a background in immunology and will, design, develop and conduct research related to the development of therapeutic antibodies. You will be involved in performing in vitro assays to support potency evaluation of lead candidates and pre-clinical pharmacology including, in vivo and ex vivo studies in relevant disease models. You will apply your expertise in immunology and pharmacology ensuring development of fit for purpose assays, completion of pharmacokinetic and biomarker assays in a range of immunology/immune-oncology programs. You will work within a multi-functional team to support studies across the immunology portfolio and will report to the Associate Director, Immunology.

How you will Spend Your Day

This is a hands-on laboratory-based role within the Discovery Biologics Group employing the following capabilities and responsibilities:

  • Establish, develop and run translationally relevant animal models of disease within the immunology therapeutic area, including autoimmunity, inflammation and immuno-oncology.
  • Implementation and execution of a range of technical immunological assays and methods e.g. flow cytometry, assessment of human immune cell function, bioanalytical assay development inducing assessment of biomarkers.
  • Provide in vitro and in vivo efficacy testing of antibody therapeutics, including potency evaluation, PK/PD relationship and biomarker evaluation to support proof of biological activity. 
  • Collect, analyse and interpret data coupled with the ability to provide recommendations to key stakeholders through clear and concise oral and written communication.
  • Work closely with local and international teams to support smooth transition of projects across their developmental stages.
  • Record keeping and maintaining detailed, accurate electronic laboratory notebooks that support data driven decision-making; generation of regulatory submission-quality reports.
  • Represent the Discovery Biology team with internal & external stakeholders, as required.
  • Responsible for oversight of some external activities involved in studies at contract research and partner organizations.
  • Leadership and/or management experience including ability to work with and mentor staff, including: assisting in experimental design, managing laboratory activities within agreed timelines, and providing effective feedback.
  • Responsible for timely write-up of all experimental work and for ensuring Teva Biosafety and EHS policies are implemented and local regulations are met.
  • Your Experience and Qualifications

    PhD in Immunology with at least 2yrs postdoctoral experience or equivalent industry experience in life sciences with extensive experience in immunology and/or pharmacology: with relevant experience in inflammation, autoimmunity or immuno-oncology.

    Professional experience

  • A high-level understanding of immunology, including a good understanding of the translational relevance of rodent models to human disease.
  • Demonstrated experience with cell culture including immortalised cell lines and primary human cells
  • Demonstrated experience with cell based assays including: reporter cell systems and direct measurement of leukocyte function in vitro.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of platform technologies such as multi-colour flow cytometry, biomarker analysis (e.g. ELISA, MSD) and live cell imaging (e.g. IncuCyte)
  • Experience in assay development and qualification, assay design, data analysis using relevant software (e.g. Graphpad Prism, Softmax Pro, FlowJo etc…), and knowledge of statistical analysis as it relates to dose response relationships
  • Highly regarded

  • Previous experience in industry-based R&D 
  • An understanding of the drug discovery and development process related to therapeutic antibodies
