About the role:

We’re on the hunt for a skilled and motivated QLD News Operations Manager/ Journalist to join our News team based in Brisbane. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensure newsrooms in applicable markets run smoothly in an operational capacity and delivers on SCA’s broadcast and digital news commitments, including during emergency news events.
  • Write, edit, and deliver news and sport audio stories for news bulletins across Queensland where required, from Brisbane to Mount Isa, and for SCA’s podcast app LiSTNR.
  • Rostering news team staff, being point of call for sick/ annual leave requests, ensuring smooth onboarding and training of new starters, jumping in to cover on air shifts during periods of sickness or annual leave.
  • Overseeing the staffing of news bulletins in multiple markets and offering advice and suggestions on workflow, newsgathering approaches.
  • Creating and updating useful resources, information and forward story planner lists for Queensland journalists (Trello).
  • Having a thorough understanding of SCA’s news software including Newsboss, Zetta, OmnyStudio and associated analytics, and ability to assist journalists with related questions and training.
  • Be able to source and produce quality, original stories.

Experience we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing day to day newsroom operations.
  • Technology savvy/ proven experience working with news software.
  • Has an ability to convey news information by adopting a range of styles, tools and techniques appropriate to the audience and the nature of the information.
  • Experience in writing and delivering news & sport on air.
  • A degree qualification in Journalism, Communications or Media is desirable.
