Position Details

Established in 1954 by the Dominican Sisters, Santa Clara School, St James, is a single stream co-educational Catholic primary school with a current enrolment of 221 students from Kindergarten to Year Six. Our cultural diversity is unique to our school and creates a sense of unity and belonging.
The values of resiliency, creativity, caring, courage and truth are embedded into life at Santa Clara and this complements the Religious Education program. Specialist classes of Music, Physical Education, Italian, Health and STEM are available to all students and the MiniLit and MacqLit Program operates to support accelerated intervention for students from Year One to Six. Our staff have commenced the process of planning and implementing EAL/D plans to support the needs of our students.
2023 will see a continued focus on embedding our school Vision for Learning in all aspects of school life and deepen our teachers’ understanding of pedagogical practices that enhance the learning for our students. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in supporting and mentoring our teachers in their own learning and development to enable them to develop their own professional judgement in discerning how and when to apply specific teacher practices. To ensure a commitment to this focus, the Assistant Principal will have a minimal teaching load.
The successful applicant will also be required to lead our Catholic community collaboratively alongside members of our Leadership and Extended Leadership Team. Additionally, the successful applicant will be an exemplary educator, be skilled at data analysis to drive school improvement, and the organisation, initiative and competence to coordinate administrative aspects of leadership

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will:
• be an active member of the Catholic Church.
• demonstrate high levels of competency across the domains of Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship.
• a good understanding of standards relating to schools, including the implementation of the Western Australian Curriculum, SCSA Achievement Standards, AITSL, EYLF, and NQS.
• possess the ability to support and advise staff with learning plans and pedagogical approaches for second language acquisition.
• have the capacity to develop self and inspire others through the analysis of data and the provision of effective professional learning based on current educational research, and pedagogy and practices that enhance student learning and drive school improvement.
• demonstrate initiative and a solution focused approach.
• work closely with the community including Parish.
• be innovative in their approach to working with students, families and staff.
• an excellent understanding of and experience with Early Childhood Education is desirable.
• possess an understanding of and experience with implementing support programs such as MiniLit and MacqLit is desirable.

Qualifications Required

• Accreditation to Lead the Religious Education Learning Area.
• Have a minimum of seven years relevant educational experience.
