  • About This Opportunity 

    The Advanced Research Technician/Technical Officer provides specialist research/technical support to Proteomics workflow at Queensland Metabolomics and Proteomics (Q-MAP) facility.

    We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Research Technician/Technical Officer to apply their subject matter expertise and advanced knowledge of Proteomics, and high level of automation to the Queensland Metabolomics and Proteomics (Q-MAP) team and/or research projects and other work undertaken by the research team.

    Key responsibilities will include: 

    Core

  • Provide analytical services to clients and collaborators, including performing qualitative and quantitative, analysis of proteins by LCMS

  • Undertake method development and method validation for mass spectrometry and sample preparation

  • Ensure high quality scientific data collection and maintain detailed, accurate and up to date record of experiments or analyses performed in a laboratory notebook

  • Devise, document and compile Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and methodological work flows for analytics including sample preparation and instrument operation – suitable for NATA and ISO9001 accreditation

  • Keep in phase with academic and industry literature on the latest advancements in methodology and technology that can be adapted in the Node to increase qualitative and quantitative throughput and standards

  • Maintain an up-to-date chemical manifest and a freezer/frozen sample inventory

  • Contribute to progress reports to Proteomics Australia and Queensland Metabolomics and Proteomics (Q-MAP)

  • Provide general laboratory support, including ordering and maintaining consumables

  • Safety

  • Ensures a high standard of research housekeeping, waste disposal, sample storage and chemical/specimen/sample inventory management

  • Assists with developing a proactive safety culture and implement continuous improvement 

  • Other duties, as reasonable directed by the supervisor

    About You

  • Master or higher in the field of analytical chemistry, biochemistry or similar, with subsequent relevant experience and extensive technical experience in analytics; OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Sound understanding of scientific experiments and modern analytical techniques

  • Excellent level communication skills

  • Sound organisational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.

  • Proven ability to work successfully both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Completion of relevant postgraduate degree by research in analytical chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related discipline – particularly in metabolomics; with extensive hands-on experience on LCMS.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in

    chromatography and mass spectrometry principles and techniques the analysis of proteins and validation routine targeted and untargeted proteomics analysis using LC-MS; and the use of relevant data processing software troubleshooting and routine maintenance of instruments data and database management.

  • What We Can Offer 

    This is a full-time (100%) fixed-term position for up to 2 years at HEW level 6 . 

    The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $84,871.95 – $91,158.90 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $99,300.18 – $106,655.91 per annum.
