  • About This Opportunity 

    We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow, with expertise in co-design, qualitative or participatory research, to join the dedicated research team within our world-leading School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

    In this role you will have the opportunity to support and manage research associated with the MRFF funded project: Unspoken, Unheard, Unmet: Improving Access to Preventative Health Care through Better Conversations about Care. This project aims to co-design, implement, and evaluate “Better Conversations”: an interdisciplinary, multi-component intervention to support people with communication disability to have better conversations about aged care. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow, will be responsible for managing the effective implementation of this research, including study initiation processes, project implementation and delivery, and collaborator relationships.

    This position is located at our , UQ’s premier campus for clinical health teaching and research.

    As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A), key responsibilities will include: 

    Research

  • Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing, exhibiting in high quality outlets and presenting at conferences.

  • Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile.

  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).

  • As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.

  • Citizenship and Service

  • Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.

  • Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

  • As a Research Fellow (Level B), key responsibilities will include: 

    Research

  • Develop an independent and/or team research program to achieve national recognition and impact in the research area.

  • Produce quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in national research journals, other appropriate refereed publications and conference publications, with a lead role in some outputs.

  • Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Demonstrate a track record of the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Effectively lead and develop supervisee performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.

  • Manage staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.

  • Citizenship and Service

  • Demonstrate behaviours that align to the UQ values.

  • Effectively and efficiently manage internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

  • Actively pursue and develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

    About You

    To be considered at Level A , you will possess:

  • Qualifications in health or social sciences, with completion or near completion of a PhD.

  • Experience using co-design, qualitative or participatory research methods.

  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area, demonstrated through evidence of an established record of publications in high-quality peer-reviewed outlets such as reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with colleagues at all levels.

  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively, whilst prioritising own workload and meeting deadlines.

  • To be considered at Level B , you will possess:

  • Completion of a PhD in health or social sciences.

  • Experience and a growing profile in co-design, qualitative or participatory research.

  • A developing track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.

  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research by Higher Degree students to successful completion.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

  • What We Can Offer 

    This is a full-time (100% FTE), fixed-term position through to 31 December 2026 at Academic Level A or Level B commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience.

    The full-time equivalent base salary at Level A will be in the range $74,308 – $99,426 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $86,941 – $116,329 per annum. 

    The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range $104,579- $124,187 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $122,358 – $145,299 per annum.
